The decision was taken following a series of allegations made by him against other members of the selection committee and also against former captain Misbah-ul-Haq.
According to a statement issued by PCB chairman Ehsan Mani, Wasim Akram has been given 15 days to respond to charges being levelled against him or face dismissal for gross misconduct and violations of service rules."

"It is unfortunate that Wasim Akram's experience and contribution in Pakistan cricket cannot be appreciated by anyone," said PCB chief Shaharyar Khan. "He has been removed from his position as chief selector because he did not inform us about his decision to step down after playing one Test against India in June this year."
The decision came about 15 hours after Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Waseem Khan sent his resignation to the board management after a press conference he gave on Monday -- hours before the PCB sacked Wasim Akram as chief selector.

The board's notice said that it had found Khan guilty of gross misconduct and incompetence, and asked him to explain why he should not be dismissed forthwith for mismanagement of PCB affairs, including decisions made by him regarding selection committee appointments.
The notice also said that he had failed "to discharge his duties diligently and properly". It gave him 15 days from its date (Tuesday) expire without any response or further explanation being received from him before considering all other options available under law including removal from office."

The chief selector said that it is not possible that a person could be allowed to remain in his post with such serious allegations against him after an inquiry into his conduct was completed by an administrative authority.
He added that if Wasim Akram fails to respond within the period given by him then he would be deemed guilty of refusing a hearing and thus should resign from office without further ado.

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sacked CEO Wasim Khan and his assistant Yawar Saeed, the board said on Saturday. The announcement comes days after former Test opener Shoaib Akhtar was banned for life from playing in any format of the game for abusing a female reporter during an interview with a media channel.
Khan and Saeed were given strong warnings over their behaviour but they continued to misbehave at various events, including functions held during the World Cup 2019 and Karachi Kings' victory parade on March 5 this year when they disturbed players celebrating their victory with drinks in hand, a source told DawnNewsTV channel on Friday night.
